KITCHENER —
New lights installed to rebuild the west of King Street are more than any other part of the $9 million project.
Cory Bluhm, a city designer and planner in the city, recalls the eureka moment he experienced during his evening walk in nice park, France.
Each tree is lit from below, and the leaves twinkle in the evening wind to create an unforgettable atmosphere.
When Bluhm began to redesign the west of King Street, he remembered the lights of the French Park.
\"When most cities encounter lighting problems, they explode on the street like a football field,\" Bluhm said . \".
\"We don\'t want to do that.
\"Dark bricks on the surface of the old sidewalk absorb light and make the streets darker.
The new sidewalk reflects light, making it brighter.
The old decorative black lampposts were separated too far to form a pool of light separated by darkness.
This makes the eyes of the pedestrian constantly adjust to make it appear darker.
The new lamppost is closer so the light is brighter and more uniform.
There are two lights on the sidewalk under the new pillar, and a line of light is projected into the air.
\"It immediately brings a very unique look to this section of King Street,\" Bluhm said of the light pillar . \".
\"Another reason we do this is because the city center feels like a canyon.
\"The role of these lights is to reduce the feeling of the canyon, because your sense of space is guided by the top of these key lights,\" Bluhm said . \".
The lamppost on the sidewalk is half the story.
Decorative lighting is installed at the bottom of all new trees along King Street.
The light plays on the tree and tall grass plays in the flowerpot.
The end of the flowerpot is a Footlight several centimeters above the sidewalk.
Speaking of the sidewalk between Ontario and the young streets, Bluhm said: \"The neighborhood looks amazing at night because you have a row of continuous trees that sparkle in the light . \".
\"It is designed to create a more vivid and exciting atmosphere,\" Bluhm said . \".
Perception can be a huge challenge for businesses in the city center and economic development personnel in the city.
Specifically, people say they don\'t feel safe in the city center.
But according to police calls, the city center is one of the safest neighborhoods in the area.
The design of the lights helps to change the perception of the unsafe core.
As part of the city center lighting project, the city works with Christie Digital, which provides projectors to show images near the top of the City Hall.
The result is a digital art gallery that can be seen in the evening from around the city center.
Between July and August, five artists and three photographers appeared on the cube every night between 9: 00. m. and 10:30 p. m.
The city is currently hosting a student video contest where the winner will project their work on the cube this fall.

When that paragraph was re-developed in the medium term, the time-Deco lamppost was left in the proper position2000s.
The aim is to create a rustic effect in the core section that is different from the more modern look of the western king.
A few months ago, the posts were wrapped in small white string of lights as a permanent accent or decoration.
Lighting used to be the field of traffic engineers, the focus of the debate is whether to use high
Pressure Sodium or metal halogen lamp at the top of Cobra-shaped posts.
Now, city designers use lighting to add beauty, personality and atmosphere.
Along Stephen Avenue in downtown Calgary, the floodlights mounted on the top of the lamppost highlight the upper facade.
Many European cities employ experts who use colored lights on buildings, statues, bridges and trees.
Local architect John McDonald can talk about lighting for hours.
In 1995, he participated in the lighting research in the city center and consulted on the lighting design of the West reconstruction of King Street.
1995 of the study classified downtown streets
City street for public institutions (Queen)
Main Street and business center (King)
Entrance to Victoria Park (Gaukel).
Many of the remaining streets are divided into small commercial streets (Ontario, Eby)
And major businesses (Charles)
And residential streets.
Some streets will be used to connect the surrounding neighborhoods with the city center and pedestrians
Directional lighting on decorative pillars is used to define the space and give it features.
The street lights light up along Cedar, Abby, gaoker, Ontario and Queen Street.
\"One thing we\'re trying to create is continuity,\" McDonald said . \". Pedestrian-
Directional lighting enables people to recognize the faces of passers-by without glare and color distortion from high-intensity lights.
Pedestrian lighting should not be higher than 3. 5 metres high.
When the designer starts to think about lighting, a key question is: what is the lighting? MacDonald says.
\"If you want to create a particularly comfortable evening environment, lighting is just an integral part,\" McDonald said . \".
\"Do you want me to light up the garbage bags that merchants pile up when they close at 6? m. ?
Is that the lighting scheme?
Said MacDonald.
